Lake Superior Jasper Cabochon, Iron Bound Jasper Cabochon, Red Jasper Cab

This beautiful tall oval is cut from Lake Superior Jasper or Jaspelite. Jaspelite is a mix of red chalcedony and gunmetal hematite. It's also known as iron bound jasper, tiger jasper, or BIF jasper. It's prized for it's red color and reflective hematite. I have huge amounts of this material so it's rare that I pick up pieces these days but this stone is particularly special for it's unique pattern. I found this stone in the UP of Michigan in 2023. I cut it in a tall oval. It could be used as a large ring stone or pendant stone. All sides are polished. 

This stone measures: .87 H x .52 W x .28 thickness in inches or 22.2 x 13.2 x 7.2 in mm

Stone cabochons can have natural imperfections. I work to limit or eliminate them in the stones I cut but you should keep in mind that natural stones are seldom perfect.
