Fordite Necklace with Michigan Sourced Fordite and Rare Motorcycle Color

Take a close look at this fordite necklace. What do you see in the patterns? I made this piece from wranglerite-fordite from the plant at Parkway in Toledo Ohio. I cut it for the colors in this area which I really like and afterwords noticed the bird shape within the patterns which makes this a really unique piece. The fordite stone is a domed oval that's about 22 mm tall. I crafted the setting for this piece from solid sterling silver using my hand forged formed and textured recycled sterling silver for the back and the bail. This fordite also has lots of metal flake within the paint so it looks really nice when the light plays across it. The pendant is about 32 x 17 overall. You can choose to purchase just the pendant by selecting the pendant only option or select the pendant silver chain option and we'll include the pictured solid sterling silver rope chain which is 20 inches in length. The bail opening for this pendant is about 3 mm. There is only one pendant available so please only purchase one option.

Fordite is recycled automotive paint sourced from automotive factories as well as manufacturers who paint parts for new vehicles. It forms in thin layers as car parts are painted on the racks that hold them in place. After hundreds of trips through the booth where the paint is sprayed and then baked the excess buildup is scraped off the racks. We buy this waste paint in rough chunks and recycle it into beautiful jewelry. It can take hundreds of layers of paint to make a one inch thick piece of fordite. The original fordite came from Detroit and since then it’s also synonymously known as Detroit Agate. There is very little fordite that is truly vintage. Most that’s available is modern i.e. current or within the past 15 years. We prefer modern fordite as it’s water rather than lead based paint. There are many different fordite types and some are more valuable than others. You’ll find in our fordite listings we refer to the plant location that the fordite originated from rather than listing specific auto manufacturers or vehicles.You can easily google the plant location and get a list of vehicles painted there. The charge for upgrading shipping covers the increased shipping cost to send priority mail. Keep in mind we have no control over USPS shipping times or errors. Both shipping choices include tracking. USPS tracking includes a GPS signature when the package is scanned delivered. You are responsible for ensuring the safety of your packages once they are scanned delivered.
